What’s Causing Your Low Water Pressure?

Throughout the course of your homeownership, there are a number of problems that you might encounter with your plumbing system. Burst pipes, backed up drains, and many other issues can be very inconvenient, not to mention costly. While low water pressure may not seem as urgent as some of these, it can actually be the sign of a bigger problem that does need immediate attention.

There are a number of potential reasons that you may be experiencing low water pressure. Keep reading to learn more.

Leaks

If a leak has sprung up somewhere within your pipes, then it can certainly lead to lower water pressure. There is a way you can check to see if this is the problem. Turn off all the water taps in your home, and make sure neither the washing machine nor dishwasher is running. Now go see if your water meter is running. If it is, you most likely are experiencing a leak. The best thing to do in this case is to call our professionals for immediate repairs.

Hard Water

Hard water describes water that has a buildup of the minerals calcium and magnesium. This problem isn’t necessarily unhealthy for you, and for that reason many homeowners neglect the problem. However it can cause a buildup along the lining of your pipes, creating and/or adding to already existing clogs and therefore slowing the flow of water.

A Problem with the Municipal Supply

Your low water pressure might not be a problem with your individual plumbing system at all. Rather, it may be due to a problem with the municipal supply. While we are ready to assist with any water flow problems you may have, it’s a good idea to first call your municipal water utility to ask if there are any current problems and get a timeframe on when it will be corrected.
