Does Your Water Need Treatment?

Have you ever stayed in a part of the country, in an apartment or some kind of private living space, and you just couldn’t go near the tapwater? Some tapwater can be inundated with all kinds of bacteria that’s native to the area if it comes from a private pump, while others can have minerals in it if it’s not correctly softened. Basically, depending on where you live, your water could be undrinkable or even unusable without treatment.

But the more you look at what could be contaminating your water, the more anxious you might get. There are a lot of horror stories out there about contaminated water and homeowners being left on their own to deal with some serious issues with bacteria, viruses, and minerals. Well, this blog post is to help alleviate some of that anxiety and point you in the right direction when you need water treatment systems in Cedar Falls, IA.

Bacteria in the Water

First of all, we need to talk about bacteria. It’s everywhere, in our air, our water, and even in some of the produce we eat. Lots of bacteria are actually the good kind. For example, probiotics are natural in the environment and things our bodies are regularly exposed to. There’s no need to be very alarmed when sitting in the grass or eating fresh produce that’s been cleaned, it’s likely got plenty of good bacteria that your body is looking for.

However, a lot of bacteria can be harmful and infectious to humans. Think about when you travel overseas to a different country and try to drink the water there, you might get sick while others around you are fine. That’s because bacteria changes depending on where you are, and there are different kinds that can do things to your body.

With water purifiers, you can eliminate bacteria and keep your home safe.

Viruses and Mold

Viruses and mold might be similar to bacteria, but they function very differently. Viruses are infectious organisms that require a host in order to survive. They can be much more contagious and harder to deal with than bacteria which is why purifying your water to get rid of viruses is a good thing to consider.

Mold grows in moist, dark environments like sewer systems and in underground areas where groundwater can be sourced. The spores can get caught up in your waterways and infect you if you’re not careful.

Minerals Can Ruin Your Appliances

Minerals are different from the other biological contaminants listed here. They’re safe for consumption (aside from the mineral lead which can be poisoning), but minerals will do most of their damage to your water-using appliances such as your washing machine, water heater, and dishwasher. Minerals can solidify and turn into sediment deposits that clog up your system.

Minerals can’t be filtered out by a normal water filter or purifier. They require a water softener that transfers the dissolved minerals to a batch of “brine” that then needs to be changed out every so often. But it’s a good thing to invest in if you have mineral-heavy water!
