Will I Really Benefit From a Water Softener?

water softener systemThese days, most water supplies throughout the country have a significant level of filtration and conditioning they go through before that water gets to your faucets. And if you use ground water from a private well, you very likely have your own water treatment system in place. However, something many homeowners don’t realize is missing from their homes is protection from hard water.

Water softeners are an increasingly popular, and extremely helpful, Cedar Falls, IA water treatment system. Hard water is the result of a high concentration of minerals within the water supply—namely calcium and magnesium. While these minerals are harmless to ingest, they actually do a great deal of damage to your plumbing system over time. Hard water should be addressed before it has the chance to put your pipes out of commission. But are there really that many benefits to having a water softener installed? Keep reading, and then decide for yourself.

No More Soap Scum!

Soap scum is an annoying problem to have, particularly if you do a good job of keeping your bathroom and kitchen area clean, only to discover it pop back up a few days later. Not to worry, the presence of soap scum doesn’t mean you aren’t cleaning effectively—it may simply mean you have hard water. The minerals we mentioned prevent soap from dissolving as easily as it normally would, resulting in that soap scum buildup you see.

No More Water Spots

Water spots that appear on glassware after you do the dishes can occur due to minerals in the water supply. These water spots are harmless, but are still a nuisance, and may indicate that your dishwasher is slowly accumulating damaging from the same hard water molecules that jam pipes and cost homeowners thousands of dollars in repair and replacement costs.

No More Residue Buildup around Sinks and Drains

This is almost a sure sign of a potential plumbing emergency. The same type of buildup outside of the faucet is happening within your pipes, too. Slowly, the mineral deposits continue to build up, and restrict the volume inside the pipes. Eventually, this can lead to you replacing your faucet and pipes far sooner than you expected to.

More Refreshing Showers

Have you ever gotten out of the shower to notice your hair feels slimy, and once you’ve dried off your body, your skin feels raw and possibly flaky? This can certainly happen due to hard water. The minerals in hard water can dilute the shampoo, conditioner, and soap that you are using, causing this adverse reaction instead of allowing you to feel clean and refreshed after showering.

Longer Lasting Clothes

The same way soap scum builds up in your bathtub and shower, it can fail to completely dissolve in your washing machine, too. This can prevent clothes from rinsing off completely, or can make them stiff after they come out of the dryer. Lastly, it breaks your clothes down faster. You might be surprised by how much longer your clothes last just by addressing your hard water problem.
