Dalton’s Guide to Water Treatment

water-rushing-over-persons-hands

There’s no secret that homeowners today not only want to be comfortable in their homes as affordably as possible, but that they also want to be as safe and healthy as possible. There are many ways to achieve this–with the right comfort control systems, the right indoor air quality solutions, and the right water treatment!

That last one doesn’t get talked about a lot, but it should. Even though the water that comes from the city’s plant is heavily treated, it has many miles to travel from that plant to your home, and along the way can pick up minerals and contaminants that affect the taste, the water quality, and even your plumbing system.

Read on as we uncover the types of water treatment systems on the market today, the signs you need water treatment, and what the benefits are of having a whole-house water treatment system installed.

Types of Systems

There are different types of water treatment systems that address different needs. A reverse osmosis (RO) system, for example, addresses contaminants that may be in the water such as bacteria or metals. A water softener rids your plumbing of hard water.

Hard water is water with a high presence of minerals in it–namely magnesium, calcium, and sometimes iron. These minerals are generally harmless to ingest, but they are not harmless to your plumbing system. They stick to the sides of the pipes and cause eventual corrosion and leaks. Plus, hard water impacts the look of your dishwasher, and the clothes that come out of the washing machine. Hard water also prevents soaps from dissolving completely, leaving you with residue on the things you clean–including yourself in the shower!

Signs You Need Water Treatment

There are a few signs you can watch out for that indicate you might need water treatment.

Sign 1: Your water tastes bad. Does your water have a metallic taste? Or perhaps it tastes off in another way. Not a lot of people particularly enjoy the taste of tap water, but it shouldn’t be unbearable to drink. If you notice a strange taste or odor, give us a call.

Sign 2: You see scaling around the drain openings and faucets around your home. Scaling is the buildup of limescale and occurs when you have hard water. It can show up as a result of hard water.

Benefits of a Water Treatment System

Perhaps the biggest benefit of having a whole-home water treatment system installed is that you’ll have healthier water in your home, which is good for you, your family, and your plumbing system. Water treatment will also help your water taste better.

A lot of folks assume that they can just get a pitcher or something similar to filter out their water, but this doesn’t resolve all the problems that hard water or contaminated water can bring. Contact our team to learn more and explore your options!
