Plumbing Mishaps: Do You Have an Emergency on Your Hands?

man-on-phone-while-holding-bucket-up-under-ceiling-collecting-waterPlumbing emergencies are inconvenient, to say the least, often unsanitary, and sometimes very damaging to the entire home. Fortunately, we can help with our emergency plumbing services!

Over the years, we’ve responded to many a service call regarding malfunctioning or damaged plumbing. Read on as we uncover some of the most common plumbing emergencies you can face and give us a call the second you find yourself facing one.

An Overflowing Toilet

This one is panic-inducing for many homeowners, since not only does it mean the toilet can’t be used (which is particularly concerning if you only have one bathroom!) but it also leads to water damage. Fortunately, you can stop the overflow fairly quickly by turning the valve on the feedline to stop the flow of water. Note that if you have an older toilet, there may not be a valve. In this case, open the tank and rig up the chain to the flapper and that will stop the water flow.

A Clogged Sink

Many times, this is fairly minor. You may have a superficial clog, like some hair in the bathroom sink or shower drain that can be removed with a plunger and a little bit of “elbow grease.” However, the clog can be much deeper down the pipe. In this case, you need something a bit more—and no, we aren’t referring to store-bought liquid drain cleaners (these are caustic and can do more harm than good). We’re talking about a professional drain snake or hydro-jet—give us a call for either service!

A Lack of Hot Water

Water heaters are the unsung heroes of any home. They often go unnoticed, until something goes wrong. Unfortunately, if you’re not getting any hot water from any of your taps, it’s a clear sign that somethings gone amiss with your water heater.

Tree Roots in the Sewer Line

Small, pinhole leaks in the sewer line are super easy to miss. The sewer line runs underground after all. But you know what pinhole leaks lead to? Tree root infiltration! Even the smallest of sewer line leaks do a great job of fertilizing the ground they’re under and therefore attract plants, trees, and the like. Not only will the tree roots need to be professionally removed, but you’ll need sewer line repair and possibly even replacement, too.

Major Pipe Leak

How old is your home? If it’s over a few decades old and you’ve never had repiping (pipe replacement) done, then there is at least a small chance that those pipes have started degrading. This can lead to pinhole leaks that can happen almost silently behind drywall or above your ceiling if you have a second story in your home. They stay pretty hidden—until they rot out the drywall so much that you see mold growth, dampness, water stains, or even holes.
