How to Choose the Right Ceiling Fan

ceiling-fan-in-modern-kitchen

Ceiling fans have an important purpose in the modern home. No, they cannot lower the temperature in a room. But, they can help circulate the air more effectively. This means that they can help your home efficiency since you can adjust your thermostat by a couple of degrees so you and your family will feel cooler.

Plus, the direction of your ceiling fan’s blades can be reversed using the small switch at the center of your fan, in order to push heat down in the wintertime and help your heating system keep you warmer. So ceiling fans have advantages no matter what time of the year it is!

But how do you choose the right fan or fans for your specific home? Read on as we share some pointers!

Consider Location

First and foremost, you’ll want to think about where you want your ceiling fans, and where they will be the most beneficial. Ceiling fans cannot cool down a room all on their own but they can distribute the air in the room or space evenly. This makes them extremely beneficial for boosting HVAC efficiency, as the air coming from your equipment will be distributed evenly throughout the room for widespread comfort.

Fans help you feel cooler–or in the wintertime, you can switch the fan blade direction and it can help you feel warmer–by redistributing the air in the space, whether it’s inside or outside. You’ll just want to think about where they will benefit you the most, and even if you need more than one in a single space. Our professionals can help you determine this!

Consider Size

Bigger rooms need bigger fans! At least, this is the case if you want your ceiling fans to be truly effective. Standard ceiling fans come in diameters between 30 inches to 56 inches. Even bigger fans are available from certain companies and are typically used in commercial, industrial, and/or outdoor settings.

Rooms that are 100 sq. feet or smaller will usually do fine with a ceiling fan that’s 30-48 inches in diameter, while a 400 sq. foot room would benefit with a medium-sized fan–48-54 inches. A bigger space than this may require a 56-inch fan or multiple smaller fans.

Consider Aesthetics!

Sure you want to think about the functionality of your ceiling fans, but let’s face it, you want them to be attractive too, right? The best way to choose a ceiling fan style is your way.
